[WARC] DEVELOPMENT

Here's the original motion as reported in the approved minutes
of the November 2006 Meeting:

"Les (KØBAD) moved and Jim (KBØTHN) seconded that the Winona
Amateur Radio Club Incorporated Executive Committee create a
Development Committee to conduct fundraising and member
recruitment activities. Motion passed."

It's pretty clear to me that the "Development Committee" is not
the club's cure-all committee.

The Repeater Committee needs to become more active (even though
it's already the most active.)
The Packet Committee needs to become a real committee.
We need an Operating Activities Committee so bad it hurts.
We need an Education or Education Outreach Committee.
We need to offer some help to the Vice-President so we can
continue to have quality "programs"
   (Meeting Program Committee?)
We need a Finance Committee.
We need...etc., etc.

How do we do that? First, we appoint people to the committees
and make them responsible for a little part
of getting this club back on its feet. If we in one committee
try to fix this entire club, we will fail. If we only have
22 people in the club than maybe all 22 need to be on "a"
committee (at least for a spell). Each committee of
people will then have a small role in order to rejuvenate this
club.

If we are unwilling to break this big problem into several small
parts, it won't get fixed.

This listserve makes much of that process easier, but we have to
set up many different conversations.
Let's all decide which one(s) we are going to participate in and
get down to business.

to develop the club into an
organization that will attract both members and money.

As has been noted several times, clubs of all types are
struggling today.
WARC is not alone in declining membership, but it is the one we
are
concerned about.

Positive ideas like using the WEPNET to help people pass the
government
classes are what we need to come up with to attract
participants. Without
positive activities we won't retain those we do manage to
attract.

I disagree with Les and agree with Jim. I believe the dev
comittee needs to
work on DEVELOPING the club before asking people to join and
asking for
money. That was my intention with things.
