[WARC] FD 2007

In my opinion 2A plus GOTA is too much. We end up with 2 stations that are
sitting most of the time with no operators. Also with 2 stations we were
always QRMing each other. Then there is the logging issues. I would rather
have one good antenna / rig combination and a GOTA station. Even with bad
band conditions with that many people on you make your own propagation.
Digital would be cool. It's not my cup of tea but I am sure there are many
that would be interested. Having said that I still believe we could do it
all with one rig. It would be nice to have a rig going the full 24 hours.

Havent heard much lately about the FD effort. I think we do need to have
meeting some time soon as was suggested. In addtion to the need to contact
other groups affiliated with potentially interested youth there are a few
other
hurdles to consider.
I have had a couple of thoughts about the FD event with regards to HF and
the
GOTA station. Rumors are that the bands have been a bit tough lately
(propagationwise) which means that 40/80 will be very important. (I have
to
go by the rumors as I haven't turned my rig on in some time....)
10/15 may not be the best this year which leaves 20, 40, and 75/80 for the
three
stations to run.
In years past it has been difficult to get as many operators needed to have
a
couple of HF stations going simultaneously.
What are the options?
Is the group committed to 2A?
How about a poll of folks that can operate?
If there are enough bodies to pull off a 2A + GOTA then the group will have
to
rotate bands accordingly to avoid QRM in a scheme somewhat like this:
GOTA on 20 phone while HF 1 runs 40 CW and HF 2 runs 75 phone.
If 20 phone dries up then one of the other HF stations grabs 20 CW and the
GOTA
can try a lower band.
What about digital? If we could do some digital work that may provide some
decent air time to get a nice qso count. Could we do digital?
Other thoughts: All three HF stations will need good antennas for 20/40/80
(of
course 15/10 could open so it would be a reasonable idea to have the ability
to
radiate there just in case).
I know we have enough gear to pull this off, but it does appear to be a tall
order
.
Comments?
