[WARC] Public Service Idea

The club ought to offer to put up a security camera focused on the Garvin H=
eights lookout - maybe mounted on the Wincrest water tower with a big honki=
ng lens!  I was recently at the lookout and the water tower has a clear vie=
w of the area. We could seek funding from the city or elsewhere and perhaps=
 convince Digicom, or some other provider of security equipment to donate a=
 hi-resolution digital security camera that activates when there is motion. =


Then transmit the signal to a convenient remote recording location either w=
ith amateur equipment or a part 15 device.

We could catch future metal thieves in the act! It would be a great public =
service and it might start a fad. We could eventually put together a portab=
le "monitoring box" (with antenna) that is solar powered and could be mount=
ed at a safe distance to target an area where there is a "problem." Set up =
a companion "recording box" (with antenna) and place it in the shack of the=
 nearest ham. Let 'er sit for a month and see what happens!

Not exactly ham radio, but a great public service that could lead to intere=
st in ATV, etc. (I would really be interested in developing digital modes o=
f ATV.)
