The May meeting of the Winona Amateur Radio Club will feature a
tour of the National Weather Service facility in La Crosse. The tour
will begin at 7:30 PM Thursday, May 15, at the NWS facility.
Car-pooling from the Winona Fleet Farm parking lot (south of car wash)
will be available at 6:30 PM for those interested in riding with others.

The NWS has often commented on the value of storm spotting and reporting
performed by area hams. The La Crosse NWS facility has a
comprehensive amateur VHF station to help coordinate inputs from the
several active amateur nets during a storm event. That information is
consolidated with other NWS system inputs in order to maximize the
accuracy of severe weather announcements. The tour will cover general
facility capabilities and operations.

All amateur radio operators and other interested persons are encouraged
to attend. It is not necessary to be a member of the Winona Amateur
Radio Club to participate. There will be a short business meeting at
the NWS facility after the tour.

In a few days, we will be soliciting information about expected
participation in the tour and information about persons willing to
provide transportation for the car pool.

In the event of a severe weather event on the evening of the 15th, the
tour will be postponed. A brief meeting will be held in Winona instead.
Postponement and alternate plans will be announced via the club
2-meter repeaters and this reflector (time permitting).

73,
Len KC0RSX
