Clare has a good idea, but I have another...
What you should really do is this:
1. Go buy a couple rolls of 100 ft hookup wire. Black is good, but red
is nice if you are trying to convince the xyl that you are actually
doing the Christmas decorations early rather than putting up "another
antenna".
2. Get out your soldering iron and solder and connect all of the screen
windows in your house. (You can also connect the ones standing in your
garage to those on the house.
3. Connect the final end to the Johnson Matchbox that you should have
bought last time one came up on ebay
4. Fire up a radio. Set it to 28.5.
5. Call CQ. (use either cw or voice-it makes no difference)
optional
6. Because most houses have four basic directions, and because the
screen windows on the house are vertically oriented, with some
additional wire and additional soldering it is possible to construct
phased verticals. (the dimensions of most houses approximate the ideal
separation of the vertical elements). In actuality, even more
directional gain and front-to-back can be obtained by using the screens
inside the garage as a third element. (They might need to be turned 90
degrees for maximum effect)
