I've received over 10 logs from various SW WI, W-Cent. WI
and far SE MN hams who participated in the ARRL Jan VHF
Sweepstakes on Jan 17-18. Receiving at least 10 logs triggered
my sponsoring a plaque for the highest score by a newcomer or
little-gun station.

W9HQ David and his son Christopher KC9JTL played as a
limited multi-op, and they have won the plaque by scoring 1,060.
Congratulations to both David and Christopher.

Congratulations to everyone reading this who took the time to
get on and hand out some points. It looks as though there were
at least 25-30 calls in the EN43/EN44 area that contested.

Here's the scores from those who submitted logs:
  KC9JTL -- 1060
  KB9KTD -- 616
  WV9S & son AB9HW -- 440
  K9WKW -- 374
  AB9TS -- 162
  KC9ECI -- said he had about 15 Q's.
  KV9U -- reported about a dozen Q's.
N9IGS -- sent log I couldn't open, but thanks for taking the time.
W9RPM -- Not eligible for award.
KC9BQA -- Not eligible for award.
KA9FOX -- Not eligible for award.

For those who are interested in the band-by-band breakdown...
  KC9JTL 6 meters -- 10 Q's in 3 grids
                     2 meters -- 33 Q's in 15 grids
                     70 cm -- 4 Q's in 1 grid
                     1.25 m -- 1 Q's in 1 grid

I wish I could explain to you new contesters how exciting and
unusual it is to have a dozen or more new ones on from a certain
area. We had it in the SW WI/ W-Cent WI/ far SE MN area.
We also had it in the Milwaukee area. But per capita, your area
dominated with the new activity.

I hope that if anyone has any questions about any aspect of
the contest, you will ask via the list, or email me direct. The list
would probably be better because almost undoubtedly, if you
have a question, someone else has the same one.

Either way, I just want you folks to get more comfortable, get
better and know that you will be a whole lot warmer during the
main summer VHF/UHF contesting season. Plan now to improve
your antennas, their height and the antenna's elevation. Antennas
are *everything* in VHF/UHF work.

Congrats to KC9JTL Limited Multi-op, and thanks to
everyone else for making this a real party.

      73,
      Todd KC9BQA EN63 40 N of Milwaukee
      50 thru 2304
